What we are learning

Hear sounds at the end and in the middle of short words.

You will need: Pencil, Counters (optional), Small whiteboard (optional)

Warm-up

Play "last sound wins": you say a word, children shout only its final sound. Try cat, bus, red, tin, hop.

1Last sound

Say each word. Write the letter for the LAST sound you hear.

2Missing middle

Fill in the missing middle sound.

5Change one sound

Change only the sound you are told to change, then write the new word.

6Practise again

Say each word in sounds, then write it in the boxes and read it back.

7Silly sentence & take it home
